Not only are installations by others improper and illegal, poorly engineered cathodic protection systems can cause massive damage to the storage tanks and other facilities in the area. The civil liability can easily exceed millions of dollars including possible criminal charges. There are hundreds of “OUTLAW,” cathodic protection installers operating in the United States. They have no Engineering Licenses and no contractor’s license to install cathodic protection systems.
